Just When You Thought You Had Seen the Last of Me.
Apparently, I'm too busy in the summer to write.
Hello everyone, remember me? I’m the Normal Midwestern Guy. I know that I haven’t posted for a while but this summer was just too busy for me to find time to sit down and write. I coached my son’s middle school baseball teams, there were two teams because of the number of kids that wanted to play (we did ok and had lots of fun). We had practice nearly every weekday from April 1st (it snowed that day) until mid-June as well as having at least one game a week. I also coached an American Legion baseball team of 13-15 year olds that started May 1st and went until the end of July (we lost in the championship game), with practices on most Saturdays. I also took my kid to two baseball events out of town. One at Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Michigan (2.5 hours away) and one at the University of Cincinnati in Ohio (an 8 hour drive). These were his first steps in trying to play baseball at the collegiate level (I might write more about this in the future).
My son and I have taken a vacation, just the two of us, since 2016, and this year was no exception. We went to Erie Pennsylvania to watch the Erie Seawolves the AA affiliate of the Tigers play. Then we went to Toledo Ohio to watch the Toledo Mud Hens, the AAA affiliate of the Tigers play. We also went to the Toledo Zoo, which is one of the highest rated zoos in the country. When we left Toledo we drove to Midland, Michigan to see the Great Lakes Loons the A affiliate of the Dodgers. I don’t care about that team but any baseball game is a good one and I needed to waste a day before moving on. Our next stop was Lansing, Michigan to see the West Michigan Whitecaps the A affiliate of the Tigers play on the road against the Lansing Lugnuts. After that game we drove to Detroit. We went to the Henry Ford Museum and then to Comerica Park to see the Tigers play. It was a good time even if the Tigers and the Mud Hens lost.
Of course I also have a job that takes up a lot of my time. There are only six of us in Security at the Grand Traverse Resort & Spa but there is supposed to be eight. Because of that we all have been working extra hours . I’m in charge of hiring but we can’t even get any good applications in. At this point I’m just looking for a warm body and I can’t even get one of those. It’s very frustrating.
Adding all these things up you get much less free time for me to devote to writing this newsletter. I’m going to be getting back into it now and hopefully I’ll be able to stick with it all year. You will be getting a real submission from me Thursday, and yes, it is about baseball.
I hope that everyone will get back to reading and enjoying my rants.
"I don’t care about that team but any baseball game is a good one..." A man after my own heart!
